In addition to the logo for the Functional Nutrition Alliance, I have been the creative director for this nutrition education business where Andrea Nakayama teaches "the art and science" of functional nutrition. After designing the logo, I developed and continue to implement the visual identity in graphics, newsletters, websites, ads, ebooks and curriculum handouts. With bold colors and simple geometric graphics, I try to simplify information while showcasing the beauty of science and food and where the two converge.
This big exuberant book covers 100 male and female football (I can't say soccer any more!) legends chosen and written by the amazing Men in Blazers team. They wanted the book to feel important, fun, and unlike other soccer books out there. I commissioned 100 illustrations by collage artist Nate Kitsch, who captured the essence of each player in his illustrations. Interior design was by Paul Kepple of Headcase Design, and the cover was a collaboration between Paul, Nate and myself.

The Tommy Bahama restaurant team wanted to celebrate the regions they were in, from the food to the local purveyors to the mood of the region beyond tourism. This mix of recipes and storytelling was a huge hit with Tommy Bahama customers. For the “Flavors of …” series, the photographs were taken by the amazingly talented story tellers Peden + Munk. They set the tone for these books which combined luscious food photography with the spirit of a place and the people who live there.
“The Marlin Bar” celebrated their new restaurant concept that brings easy, affordable drinks and outdoor leisure to the customer without a full restaurant. This book celebrates hanging out with friends and relaxing, and the fabulous Ed Anderson imbued the photographs with his authentic eye and appreciation for this culture.

A wonderful book that incorporates science, psychology and ancient philosophies like Feng shui into guidance for how to make your home as nurturing and supportive as possible. I wanted a soft harmonious palette for the book, and hired Mar Hernandez to bring her stylized-but-soft illustration style to the content. I provided Mar with a palette for the book, reference for each image (thank you to the author!), and she produced full page and spot art to make the book feel rich and welcoming throughout.
Selected for a Publishing Professionals Network outstanding book award.

This memoir by Steve Turner, one of the founders of Mudhoney, needed to ooze the same feel as their music. I wanted the cover to be grungy and energetic, with the homemade feel of their early posters. I hired Jeff Kleinsmith from Sub Pop to design the cover since he designed so many of their albums, and worked with him to get the right balance between the grunge/music feel and the readability we needed for the book cover.

Benefit Cosmetics hired us to produce a book about eyebrow care. Like their brand, they wanted it to be fun, accessible, and aimed towards a younger consumer possibly without much experience. We did a photo shoot to feature the products and techniques in the book, as well as hiring an illustrator with a feminine playful style to make some of the examples more fun and bring in a human touch. I worked with a carefully-chosen book designer to make every page playful, bright, and engaging. The result is a rich, useful book that is completely on-brand!
